Known for its clenliness and serenity, beautiful Mirror Lake reside beneath the overlooks of the Village of Lake Placid. Named after the calm ambiance and resemblance to a mirror, When looking at the lake you’ll easily be able to see a reflection of the quaint Lake Placid Village surrounding it. There you’ll find visitors and residents in paddle boats, canoes & kayaks—no motorized boats are allowed on Mirror Lake.

Things to Do at Mirror Lake

Mirror Lake offers some of the most unique recreational activities in the region. Ice skate under the open sky as winter conditions allow, the village prepares a beautiful skating loop and several cleared natural rinks for skating and pick-up hockey games. Free and open to the public, Mirror Lake is always bustling with skaters of all ages and abilities.

In the warmer months, tour Lake Placid while enjoying a leisurely 2.7-mile walk around Mirror Lake. On your trek you’ll pass a public beach that marks the start of the swimming portion of the USA Ironman Triathlon, as well as the Winter Toboggan Chute. Scout for a god spot to launch your canoe, SUP, paddle boat or other motor-less boats. Electric motors are allowed, but rarely seen on the lake. Directly on the shores of the Mirror Lake and downtown Lake Placid, there are several options for renting (non-motor) boats. There is also a public area with a loading zone to pull up and unload your boat into the lake.

Take Amtrak to Mirror Lake

Traveling to Mirror Lake is easy on Amtrak! Take Amtrak from your local station to Westport Station. Don’t forget to use Amtrak’s See New York and Save 15% discount! From Westport Station, take the Amtrak shuttle to your basecamp in the village of Lake Placid.

If Plattsburgh Station is a more convenient stop, use the shuttle service to the Olympic village. Or, make your own time and get picked up from Plattsburgh Station and taken to your reserved NYTRAIN Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
