Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty

Renowned destinations for visitors to New York City, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are must-see attractions for any history buff. Existing as two separate islands in the New York Harbor, they are served by the same ferry and make for a full day of sight-seeing.

Visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum during your trip and take a free Ranger Led Tour. Or, enjoy the audio tour for more than 120 hours, and 2,000 audio stop segments, chronicling Ellis Island in three parts: The Ellis Experience; Journeys: The Peopling of America; and Journeys: New Eras of Immigration. Don’t miss the World Migration Globe, a radiant sphere illustrating migration patterns around the world throughout human history.

Ferries provide transportation to both Ellis Island and the site of the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island. One ferry ticket provides access to both islands. Statue Cruises is the official ferry service provider. The National Park Service recommends purchasing tickets prior to the day of your trip.

“There are several exhibitions introducing the Island’s history, American history, and stories of immigrants. It was so interesting that I could have easily spent a whole day there.”
