Explore Ulster County’s Ashokan Rail Trail

The Trail

Take in the picturesque views of Ulster County when you hike, bike, run, or take a scenic stroll along the Ashokan Rail Trail.

This roundtrip trail is situated alongside the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir. The trail is easy to bike, run or walk on due to its flat terrain and crushed stone paving. In addition, it is ADA compliant and accessible for disabled persons. The trail is also open from sunrise to sunset and provides public access to the abandoned Ulster and Delaware Railroad corridor without a DEP Access Permit. During the winter season, visitors can also break out their snow gear to go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the trail!

Be sure to stop by the trail when you visit the Hudson River Valley. The opportunities for exploration at the Ashokan Rail Trail are endless!

“Great place for an easy trail run or bike ride, paths are wide and well groomed. Spectacular views and interesting interpretive information along the way. “
