Landis Arboretum

One of the greatest features of this garden are the eight miles of hiking trails amongst the beauty of nature. You may run, walk, or saunter while you take in the best Mother Nature has to offer.

Forty acres of this expansive garden are dedicated to plants from around the world. The remaining property is naturally wooded areas, wetlands and open fields. There are also eight miles of trails to take in the magnificence of nature, while running, hiking, or taking a simple stroll. There are also a number of fun events planned including the Full Moon Walk and the Live at Landis Music.

Landis is a notable arboretum within the Schenectady area. Open all year round, from dawn to dusk, visitors are welcome to explore the arboretum all day long. According to landisarboretum.com, the arboretum is recognized for being “one of only three arboreta in Eastern North American with old-growth forests,” in which Landis has two. Other features of the arboretum include numerous trees and shrubs from all over the world, and their oak trees are nationally recognized. Additionally, programs are hosted year-round.

Currently, the Waterfall Trail at Landis is closed, due to a few environmental issues. However, there is still plenty of Landis to explore. While at the arboretum you can tour the grounds by walking the Landis trail. The grounds contain more than 8-miles of hiking trails. You can find a trail map here. In the fields of the arboretum, you can find several large sculptures. One of the newer installations includes a dinosaur sculpture, which is among many other sculptures from the artist, Samuel E. Bates. His Full Moon Music Series is one of the more popular attractions at the park.

On May 15th and 16th of 2021, Landis will be hosting their Spring Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also at the Spring Plant Sale will be plenty of baked goods and books available for purchase. Make sure to check out the Van Loveland perennial gardens that are open three seasons out of the year, as well as the Lilac Collection in its new location.
