NYC Pride

The New York City Pride March first took place in 1970 when brave revolutionaries in the LGBTQIA+ community took a stand for equal rights. It is an all-inclusive event that brings communities together. It’s a place where the LGBTQIA+ community can be celebrated and there is a remembrance for those in the past and present who face persecution.

Finding support and empowerment for the strength displayed by those who have and continue to be discriminated against for their identity. Beginning in 1970 with the Stonewall Inn, this Pride event is a celebration of love in its entirety. Each year the march works towards fostering love, acceptance and growth towards all sexualities, races and gender identities.

Pride in 2021

Every year, millions of people travel to New York City in order to relish in the acceptance that the march garners. Whether you’re an ally or a member, the goal of the march is to show support for the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2020, Pride was held online in a virtual format in order to follow the Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions. This year in 2021, Pride will be held both virtually and in person. As of June 15, 2021, the state of New York has reached a milestone of 70 percent of New Yorkers being vaccinated. Because this goal has been reached, the majority of Covid-19 restrictions are being lifted throughout the state.

The theme of NYC Pride in 2021 is “The Fight Continues,” nycpride.org. After Covid-19 and many other struggles that ensued in 2020, Pride perseveres. Grand Marshals of Pride 2021 include Wilson Cruz, Ceyenne Doroshow, Menaka Guruswamy, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis and Aaron Rose Philip.
