GlassBarge: Pittsford

The Carpenter Park at the Port of Pittsford will host both the Corning Museum of Glass’s GlassBarge and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s replica canal schooner Lois McClure from Saturday, August 25th through Sunday, August 26th.

Corning Museum of Glass brings the beauty of hot glass to a waterfront community near you at the Carpenter Park at the Port of Pittsford. A 30’ x 80’ canal barge equipped with patented all-electric glassmaking equipment, GlassBarge shares the story of glass through live, 30-minute demonstrations. GlassBarge is the 2018 signature event for the Erie Canal Bicentennial, and helps to emphasize the continued role of New York’s waterways in shaping the state’s industry, culture, and community.

GlassBarge: Pittsford Tickets

GlassBarge: Pittsford will be open for free glassblowing demonstrations from 11 am to 6 pm daily. Space is limited, so make sure to reserve your ticket well in advance. Registration will be available four to six weeks prior to each stop.

About the GlassBarge Tour

Commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Brooklyn Flint Glass Company—now know as Corning Incorporated after relocating via the New York Waterways by canal barge. Offering free public glassmaking demonstrations at each scheduled stop during its four-month tour, the GlassBarge will travel north from Brooklyn Bridge Park along the Hudson, then westward long the Erie Canal before making its way to the Finger Lakes. GlassBarge will make stops next at ports in Seneca Falls and Watkins Glen. A ceremonial last leg of the trip will take place by land, concluding in Corning with a community-wide celebration on September 22.

In celebration of this pivotal journey, CMoG is recreating the voyage with GlassBarge—a 30’ x 80’ canal barge equipped with CMoG’s patented all-electric glassmaking equipment. In addition to sharing the story of glassmaking in Corning, the GlassBarge tour emphasizes the continued role of New York’s waterways in shaping the state’s industry, culture, and community. GlassBarge is the 2018 signature event for the statewide celebration of the Erie Canal Bicentennial.
