SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

New York City is known for many things, particularly its iconic skyline. That’s why you’ll find several observation decks, including the Empire State Building, throughout Manhattan. But SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, which opened in 2021, is the newest of the five current observation decks; it clearly elevates the entire experience of viewing the city to new heights.

The tallest commercial skyscraper in midtown Manhattan, the 93-story SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is located at the intersection of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, right next to Grand Central Terminal.

The top three floors offer a breath-taking immersive experience—as well as one-of-a-kind views. On the 91st floor, you step into a large room, called Transcendence 1, with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as mirrored floors and ceilings, which create a series of optical illusions. There are unobstructed views in every direction.

Also on the 91st floor is the art installation, Clouds, and the Affinity Room, which is filled with hundreds of reflective orbs of different sizes. The highlight of the 92nd floor is the ability to step out onto one of two glass ledges that jut out 1,100 feet over Madison Avenue.

On the 93rd floor stop for a snack at Apres, a cafe designed by famed restauranteur Danny Meyer. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Visitors can then wander around the outdoor terrace. For an additional price, visitors can then take the ultimate thrill ride: the Ascent, the world’s largest outdoor, all-glass elevator, which takes passengers to 1,210 feet over Manhattan.

VISITING SUMMIT ONE VANDERBILT

Summit One Vanderbilt is open throughout the year and welcomes visitors on all days of the week. The last entry to the observation is at 11 pm.

Entry ticket price is $52 for adults; $46 for youth ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.

A complete tour of Summit One Vanderbilt takes one hour to 90 minutes.

“A breathtaking experience. I’ve been to all of the NYC decks and this one is the best. Its location is ideal, providing true 360 degrees views.”
