A Local Brewery
Great Flats Brewing, located in Schenectady’s downtown, is a farm-to-table craft brewery. The beers served at Great Flats Brewing are produced with New York State-grown ingredients.
Developed in early 2017, this family-owned, quality-focused, farm craft brewery has been producing New York State beers for years. The name itself is a tribute to the freshwater aquifer underneath Schenectady that provides the most crucial ingredients to all Great Flats beers – clean and fresh groundwater.
With their title of New York State Farm Brewery, all their beers and produced with New York State-grown ingredients, something that benefits both the brewers – because their beers taste great – and keeps the farming culture of New York alive. Additionally, the brewery is wind-powered!
Great Flats Brewery encourages collaboration with other local businesses to create collaborative brews and even host partnered events. They work with businesses including Electric City Roasters in Schenectady and The Lab Creative in Syracuse.
The brewery is open Wednesday – Friday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Because their focus is on their great-tasting beers, they encourage you to bring your own food or even have it delivered to the brewery. However, they often have local food trucks or food carts on the property, so be sure to check their Facebook and Instagram for updates. If there’s no food truck on the property, complimentary pretzels and chips will be provided.
The Brews
The beer menu is always being updated. Current offerings include a Juice Supreme: a Kettle Sour with citrusy notes of orange and pineapple; The Great White: a Belgian Witbier with orange peel, coriander, and lemon; Raspberry Ale: a fruited ale with tart, summer flavors, and the Definitely Stout: an Irish stout, a dark malt with mild notes of dark chocolate – to name a few!
