Gantry Plaza State Park

The Gantry Plaza State Park is the perfectly quick getaway for those who love the grandeur of New York City but could use a retreat from the hustle and bustle. With views of the midtown Manhattan skyline, including the Empire State Building and the United Nations, visitors get a taste of New York City from across the scenic East River while enjoying this 12-acre riverside park. As if the skyline weren’t picturesque enough already, finely manicured gardens and restored gantries contribute to Gantry Plaza’s whimsical beauty.

Historic Gantries

Photographers and history-lovers alike will find inspiration throughout the park, as the gantries themselves remind us of New York’s industrial past, while the historic information posted throughout the park teaches us what we may not have known before.

Fun for the Whole Family

With cozy chairs placed strategically throughout, Gantry Plaza State Park offers its visitors a uniquely relaxing experience, while also providing plenty of recreational activities for both adults and their little ones. Recreational amenities include basketball courts for adults and kids; handball courts; a fishing pier with its own cleaning table; playgrounds, including the “Tot Lot Playground”; and, to cool off, a splash pad with a mist fountain. Though pets are welcome, they must be closely monitored. Dogs may only run freely in the two “dog runs,” but can accompany you on a leash in many other designated pathways and plazas.

New York State Parks Admission

Admission rates are particular to the park. Vehicle use fees at New York State Parks generally range from $6-$10 for day use, though you may be able to snag a free spot on the street near this particular park. Visit Gantry Plaza State Park’s website to find out more about particular passes, such as the $80 Empire Pass that permits its holders all-season, unlimited day-use entry.

Food for Though

Though cooking/grilling is not permitted within the park, there are plenty of eateries within walking distance of Gantry Plaza State Park.

“If you want to see the buildings of Manhattan from a different view – this is the place to visit.”
