Considered "the greatest collection of modern American art in any single public site that is not a museum," The Plaza Art Collection has ninety-two works of Abstract Expressionist art on permanent display.

A unique architectural complex, the Empire State Plaza offers a world-class modern art collection, New York State’s Museum, Library and Archives, a distinctive performing arts center, convention center and more.

Homage to Expressionist Art

The Plaza Collection includes pieces by renowned artists such as Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, David Smith and Jackson Pollock. The collection features 92 works of modern art including large-scale paintings, sculptures, and tapestries. The pieces are displayed in the complex’s office buildings, underground concourse, and outdoor spaces. Many of the most famous pieces of art are housed in the Corning Tower which also has an observation deck.

The modern paintings and sculptures are known for complementing the architecture of the Empire State Plaza and pays homage to the expressionist art movement that began in New York.
