History of Boilermaker 15K
The Boilermaker 15K Road Race began in 1978 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ECR International’s Utica Boiler brand. The race, along with other events hosted throughout the weekend, raises money to help give back to the community, while also spreading awareness about living a healthy life. Operating the Boilermaker Urban Initiative, which is the organization’s community outreach arm, Boilermaker supports charitable organizations through various means.
What to Expect at Boilermaker 15K
Serving as the main event, the Boilermaker 15K Road Race is referred to as one of the nations best 15K races. Always starting on the second Sunday of July, the Boilermaker is a competitive 2 hour and 30-minute race. With over twenty water stations throughout the course and entertainment at every mile, runners and attendees can enjoy live bands and “front porch DJs,” all while being safe and having fun. Filled with a cheering crowd and endless support, the Boilermaker 15K is an event worth watching.
Along with the 15K, there is the 45 minute Carbone 5K Race, where runners will get to be a part of the last 5 kilometers of the Boilermaker course. Kids will also have a chance to get into the spirit of the Boilermaker with the non-competitive Utica National Kids’ Run. Other Boilermaker events include the Wheelchair Race, Youth Olympics, and the Police and Firefighter Competition. When the races are all over, the F.X. Matt Brewing Company hosts the Saranac Post Race Party, an event that celebrates the runners and their friends and family as they enjoy live music, Saranac beer and soft drinks, food, and the awards ceremony.
