Ski or snowboard gear may be either checked or carried on for free in lieu of baggage and must be covered in a protective or hard-sided case. Carried items must weigh less than 50 pounds and be less than 72 inches in height, while checked items can be up to 50 pounds and 75 linear inches in height.
If your gear is too long or too wide, don’t worry! Oversized items that range from 76 to 100 linear inches are allowed aboard Amtrak trains for a $20 service fee.
