Held every third weekend in October at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, this family-friendly festival draws over 20,000 fiber hobbyists each year. Whether you’re passionate about knitting, crocheting, or even handspinning, this gathering offers a vibrant showcase of vendors, workshops, and live demonstrations that bring the world of wool to life.
What to Expect at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival

There’s something for everyone at this sprawling two-day event. With a wide variety of livestock shows, visitors can admire dozens of different breeds of sheep or be awed by the thrilling Leaping Llama Contest! Visitors have the unique opportunity to interact with llamas, alpacas, paco-vicunas and a few rare fiber goat breeds at Barn 27 at the top of 4-H hill. Kids will especially love the live sheep-shearing and fiber art demos, along with plenty of hands-on activities.
For makers and crafters, this festival is a dream! Sign up for workshops covering everything from beginner’s crochet and natural dyeing to felt pumpkin making, amigurumi, and spinning basics.
With more than 250 vendors on site, shopping is a must. Explore hundreds of unique yarns, natural dyes, spinning wheels and handmade fiber-arts tools or splurge on a one-of-a-kind wool garment!
When it’s time to refuel, Food Alley and a lineup of local food trucks have you covered. You’ll also find specialty food and wine tastings, as well as cooking demonstrations, highlighting the flavors of the Hudson Valley.
