Each year, the Dutchess County Fair is the Fairgrounds’ highlight of the season. In 2025, the fair will celebrate its 179th year.
The first ever fair took place on October 5 and 6, 1842 and was nothing like it is today. Originally there were merely livestock on display and a table for prized fruits and vegetables.
As time went on, new acts were added to the fair, starting with side-show acts to air shows post the Wright Brothers’ first flight. By 1919, the fair reached its final home–what we know now as the Dutchess County Fairgrounds.
Despite how much the fair has grown, it has always stuck true to its agricultural fair roots with several Agriculture based exhibits. However, rather than one field of livestock, there are 12 acres of fairgrounds dedicated to local livestock showcases. View all the features of the fair here.
Here’s some tips and tricks to make your trip to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds smooth and easy.
