The Catskill Comedy Festival is an annual event in the Village of Catskill that celebrates the best comedy and entertainment that the Hudson Valley has to offer.
The Catskills themselves have a storied history of cultivating new talent in the comedy sphere. During the Catskills’ heyday from the 1920s to the 60s, many New Yorkers, particularly Jewish families, flocked to the various summer resorts that previously dotted the region. This area of abundant vacation resorts was known as the Borscht Belt. It was this atmosphere that helped foster new comedic talent, as fledgling comedians acted as the entertainment at many of these hotels.
Launched in 2021, the Catskill Comedy Festival celebrates the region’s comedic legacy, hosting fresh talent as well as comedy icons. The festival was founded with community in mind. As a non-profit, all funds raised from the festival are used to provide free programming for local youth. There’s something for everyone at the Catskill Comedy Festival. The Catskill Comedy Festival spans over a weekend in mid-October, offering a series of live comedy performances, open mic nights and special workshop events. The entertainment also extends beyond comedy, with music, art shows, drag performances and parties, as well as free comedy workshops for the kids. Shows are hosted in a variety of intimate venues around the village, including the cozy Avalon Lounge and the Foreland event space. Enjoy a laughter-filled weekend while exploring the village of Catskill’s enchanting downtown.
Tickets for individual shows can be purchased on the festival’s website, with discounted packages available for weekend passes. VIP packages are available and include priority seating as well as access to exclusive events like meet-and-greets with performers. Some events, including the open mics and workshops, require advance registration to secure a spot. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as shows can sell out quickly. The lineup and venue locations are typically announced in August.
