What is the Brooklyn Heights Promenade?

The idea for a promenade in Brooklyn Heights came about in the 1940s. Robert Moses, the urban planner who is responsible for the development of much of New York City, proposed the construction of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. After pushback from locals, Moses came to a compromise which included building a promenade as a way to cover the expressway. It opened in 1950. Today, this tree-lined walkway remains an excellent example of ergonomical city planning and preservation of urban green spaces.
