Located in Downtown Montréal, Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is a stylish cocktail bar putting an emphasis on hand-crafted, tropical beverages.
Originally established in 2014, Bar Le Mal Nécessaire made a major move in 2024, relocating from its basement location in Chinatown to a sprawling space in Montreal’s Downtown. With this move came a reworking of the bar’s image, transforming from tiki bar-style speakeasy to swanky cocktail lounge. Still, the bar’s drink menu sticks to its roots, prioritizing exotic, fruit-forward concoctions. Situated in a prime downtown location near The Montréal Convention Center and more, a stop at Bar Le Mal Nécessaire elevates any classy night out.

With its new, expansive space accommodating over 150 guests, Bar Le Mal Nécessaire has come a long way since its basement Tiki days. Plush booths, pillars, dim lighting and a large dance floor complete the chic ambiance. Music is an essential part of the Bar Le Mal Nécessaire experience, with live DJs featured nearly every night.
Among the bar’s offerings, its namesake drink is a concoction brimming with as much smoky mystery and tropical essence as the bar itself—an amalgamation of rum, bitters, dry sherry, scotch, pineapple, cinnamon, coriander seed and kaffir lime leaf. The bar’s popular Champagne Papi, or “Drake drink”, features an image of the popular Canadian rapper printed on the beverage’s foam. The bar also offers a variety of homemade shots, including a delicious froot loops shot made with Cointreau and coconut cream. A medley of fun drinks served in fruit vessels round off the vibe.

The bar hosts over 60 hours of live music and DJs each week. Occasionally there is a cover for select artists.
