Experience a 3-day maritime festival this Summer when you visit Waterford! The Waterford Tugboat Roundup, happening from September 11th through September 13th, celebrates tugboats and New York’s rich maritime history and industry. The festival begins with the tugboat parade which starts in Albany and ends in Waterford where the rest of the weekend will take place. Throughout the weekend there is live music, a spectacular firework display and tugboat operators. Once in Waterford, docks will be open for tours, paddlewheel tour boat rides and vendors.
Attending The Festival
Stationed at each of the five locks in the Waterford Flight are different activities perfect for the everyone in the family. From pony rides to a bouncy house, the Waterford Tugboat Roundup makes sure to be kid-friendly. In addition, a 5k and tossing/cleat wrapping competition is offered for those looking for more hands-on activities. Also, for guests curious about the history of tugboats and the canals, there are informational talks throughout the weekend. To conclude the festival, there is an Awards Ceremony with awards ranging from Best Vintage Tug to Best Mini-Tug – a fun, and lighthearted way to end this great weekend!
