The 47th annual Macy’s 4th of July fireworks display is returning for 2023 on Tuesday, July 4. At approximately 9:15 p.m., hundreds of thousands of shells will be blasted into the air from five barges, creating a 30 minute display that will light up the night.
The show typically lights up the night sky over the East River, and this year is no exception. In special cases, Macy’s chooses a different body of water, like the Hudson River in 2009 to commemorate Henry Hudson’s discovery.

Join the millions of spectators who will be watching the fireworks from the shores of the East River, between Manhattan and Brooklyn. An updated map of official viewing locations will be posted a few weeks before the event, so check back soon for details! And the best part? It’s entirely free.
