The Francis Lehman Loeb Art Center is located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Vassar College’s picturesque campus, making the university the first in the nation to include an art museum as part of its initial plan. Originally founded in 1864 as the Vassar College Art Gallery, the 36,000 square foot facility has since curated over 22,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, textiles, glass works, ceramic wares and other artifacts dating from ancient to modern times. The impressive collection includes masterworks from Hudson River School painters as well as iconic contemporary artists like Georgia O’Keefe, Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock.

The museum’s most notable collections include the Antiquities and European paintings areas, as well as the Hudson River School paintings and photography, which are intended to help highlight the Hudson Valley’s history and culture. While only a small percentage of the entire collection is visible in the galleries at one time, many fine works rotate through the museum as part of temporary and permanent installations. In other words, no matter what day or time you visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, there will always be something to view and learn.

Besides its premier mission to preserve and document a wide variety of significant historical periods, the Frances Loeb Art Center seeks to enhance and support the College’s goals of leadership, scholarship and integrative learning through dynamic temporary exhibitions and educational activities. The museum offers both group and individual, self-guided tours.

The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and a mask is required. Admission is free and open to all.
