At the forefront of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, is teaching the public about the history and importance of design in the past and present. The museum has many educational programs for families, children, teens, graduate students, undergrad students and even a design camp! The possibilities are endless when it comes to higher learning and Cooper Hewitt prides itself on that ideology. They are located in the heart of a cultural hub on the Museum Mile, just outside of the world-famous Central Park. So be sure to bring your notepad and your thinking cap before engaging in the educational and exciting experiences.

Plan Your Visit to the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum

There are no ticket prices over $20, but if you order your ticket online you can save $2 off the already very inexpensive prices. There is a vast mix of both historical and contemporary pieces of design work at the museum, so you won’t miss out on either when you visit. There are also guided tours that take place at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on weekdays, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on weekends, to ensure a full understanding of the pieces. When visiting, it is highly recommended to observe the Arthur Ross Terrace and Garden, which is now open to the public!

Immersion Room

This exhibit is a wall-to-wall room filled with intrigue and excitement. The Immersion Room gives guests the chance to be the designers! A unique experience, guests can use the digital pen to select digital images of wallpapers and sketch their own design. But that’s not all, the design and drawings can then be projected onto the walls at full scale to see their creation and works of art! This exhibit is fun and interesting for children, teens, adults, and families.

Visit from Home 

Discover the museum’s history, culture, science, nature and art through online digital resources. Learn about the 154 works of art in the museum’s vast collections, listen to podcasts to learn about history or watch animals in their natural habitats through webcams. Explore the museum’s history and art with a simple click and discover something new by visiting the Smithsonian’s website.
